Ruud Bik says the first national campaign to combat prostitution in residential areas resulted in raids in 30 places in April. In total 35 prostitutes were found, 80% came from abroad and one third were under the age of 21, Bik told the Volkskrant.

‘The girls are getting younger, particularly in the illegal sector,’ he said. ‘We also came across pimps we have identified earlier in connection with people trafficking investigations.’

Lara Clinton, a deputy district attorney in Fresno County, said her typical sex trafficking cases involve young girls, often runaways, and often in urban neighborhoods within city limits. She said they are usually gang-related because they generate easy money.

“You can sell drugs only once,” she said. “But a girl can be sold over and over.”

Clinton said she sees younger sex trafficking victims lately, the youngest age 12.

WINNIPEG—Sxualized images of children under the age of 9, most depicting explicit sxual acts, represent the largest and fastest-growing category in Canada’s underground child prnography trade, according to exclusive data obtained by the Star from the Canadian Centre for Child Protection.

The data marks the first time that the age category from newborn to 8 accounted for more than half of the material Cybertip.ca analyzes. Images of children in older age categories dropped or held steady from the previous year.

The average age of child pornography victims was about 12 when Paul Gillespie ran the Toronto Police Service’s child exploitation squad a decade ago. Today, the average age of victims he sees has dropped to age 5 or below, says Gillespie, who is now president of the Kids Internet Safety Alliance, which trains police and prosecutors around the world in investigating child exploitation.
