General comments on porn

Hi Peeps (that's Brit for people)

I posted this on the Intro private section but thought it would be good to put in the public arena as I'm sure there are pro-porners out there who secretly monitor/peruse this site. Are you out there? OOOOhhh it's more shameful reading this stuff than looking at some woman getting gang-raped in every orifice possible and tortured, innit? Don't tell your friends you saw this for fuck's sake! Oh the shame of it!

Yes we are out here in cyberland and we are getting stronger and louder. Got it?

Here goes: (minor edits done)

A point I would like to pick up on again is the last 10 or 15 years when the anti-porn people and feminists seemed (on the surface) quiet. As I said, it's not completely about being anti-porn or a feminist, it's about being a normal person wanting to go about life without having to see things that are unacceptable. Ok that makes us anti-porn feminists.

I think people just thought "oh, it'll get better soon, someone else will pick up on this and sort it all out". Well, obviously, that has not happened and we have some ground to make up.

The porn-feeders argument is now, "well, no one said anything, so haha, gotcha, now it's too late and your arguments are not valid." They think they have brainwashed everyone into accepting it - we have tolerated not accepted - there is a big difference. They think that we have no argument now because they say, "oh everyone thinks it's ok, what's your problem ugly jealous lesbian, are you trying to be a moral guardian and make up rules for everyone?" They pushed the boundaries and we let them get away with it for too long, but it's never too late to start damage limitation and then prevention. We will have to go backwards for a bit before we can start running forwards.

That's just the obvious stuff in the shops - of course the internet and tv (in particular my favourite love-to-hate target, the insidious music video channels)is another story. These two mediums are what really exploded porn very fast into mainstream culture and really, almost caught people unawares.

Where the hell do we start with these two forms of media? We start by talking, preferably loudly and doing this on the the very things that are proffering vast amounts of porn -the internet and tv. That's where the consumers are - otherwise we are preaching to the converted. That's why (yes sorry I am mentioning it again) I felt so victorious that my fem definitions were accepted by the site I mentioned in the private section - it's male controlled mostly and used mostly by young narrow-minded porn-feeders. Most of them probably have a very limited capacity for thinking beyond when their next big mac will be ready, or when the next sex film download will be done but it's a start.

I do know that men can become very angry when anyone starts mentioning standing up against porn - and it means they (the anti-porns) are standing up for women. It's weird how men retaliate. You have to be careful of your own personal safety - look at how safe houses for women need to be almost like prisons. And there is the answer - men control women with porn and if they start standing up and saying something, they are literally (the women) putting themselves into danger. But we can talk and put out our message anonymously on the internet. They can't do anything to us.

We need to be imaginative in where we can "slip in quietly" and get the message across. After all, we have in the past, had thousands of times where we have had no choice but to see their messages - porn.

I'm sure I will click the submit button and think of some other stuff I wanted to say but that's ok - it'll keep for later.

:whax: (Love these emoticons - I'm adopting this one - maybe I'll give him a name (or is it a her?) - sad huh? :drunken: )
