An excellent round-up of how Sweden implements its prostitution laws.

A new publication on human trafficking and prostitution has been released by the Swedish Institute. Targeting the sexbuyer. The Swedish example: stopping prostitution and trafficking where it all begins is written by Kajsa Claude. The publication is available in English, Russian, Spanish and Turkish.

The Swedish Institute and the work against human trafficking

During the last decade the efforts towards combating the modern slavery of human trafficking have become an important topic on the political agenda, both on a national and international level.

In July 2008 the Swedish government launched the first National Plan of Action on prostitution and human trafficking for sexual purposes. A number of authorities, NGO’s and other key actors have, in relation to the plan of action and its 36 tasks, received public funding to further enhance the efforts toward combating this transnational problem.

The Swedish Institute has, in connection to this, as task number 31, been commissioned by the Government to spread information on Swedish methods and perspectives relevant to the work on prostitution and human trafficking for sexual purposes on an international basis.

The Swedes are right to be proud of their legal approach to prostitution and to buyers of sex.
