Sex offender demands sex from teenager in return for lost dog

Registered sex offender Alfredo Dempkey, 27, of Lancaster, CA found a dog named Pineapple and called the number on her collar. Rather than being a Good Samaritan, Dempkey was looking for his own gain, so when he spoke with 17 year-old Sophia Corio he demanded $70 for the dog's safe return.
When the teenager said that she did not have the cash, Dempkey told her that if she didn't have money he wanted sex. Sophia then went to her father who called in the Hawthorn, CA police. They set up a sting, and when the girl and her dog were united Dempkey was arrested.
It turns out, that was not his night as the police recognized him from an earlier prostitution sting raid where he had not been arrested. Once Dempkey was taken into custody, officers recognized him immediately from the prostitution sting earlier in the evening, said Lt. Ishii.
Before the attempted extortion, Hawthorne officers were conducting a "John sting" targeting suspects for trying to pick up prostitutes. Ten men were arrested for allegedly soliciting acts of prostitution from undercover female officers posing as hookers. Though Dempkey was not one of the men arrested, he was loitering near the scene, and officers believe he was waiting to proposition one of the undercover officers posing as a prostitute.
