Sad about treatment at a feminist event.....

I posted part of this elsewhere but wanted others to read, Guess i need some sympathy here! :)

Today I went to a help watch a top feminist organization (begins with an N) booth at the Gay Pride Festival. Most of the people at the event were cool organizations interested in empowering humanity. But than there were the female chauvninst pigs there -- lesbians selling degrading T-shirts about women. But that is not what made me feel so uncomfortable. I've had issues in the past with one of the younger members of this famous feminist organization (begins with N)regarding pornography. When she tried to prevent me from doing a talk at a conference about the ever rising phenomena of violent/gonzo porn claiming we didn't have time for me to speak (maybe we didn't but the organizer invited me to do it anyway). Anyhow, to make a long story short a month ago we got into a heated debate about pornography. She told me she was going to a lesbian pornography and sewing party that weekend. She also said she likes to go to Porn stores and laugh at the titles. Then when I told her to look into researching this pornography that was bothering me so, she said she didn't have time to. I told her if she had time to go to a lesbian porn party, then she had time to take a few hours to research. I told her I thought she was harming society by consuming these products and she laughed. Anyhow.....today at the NOW booth I went to introduce myself to a lady at the booth who I hadn't met. The pro-porn feminist introduced her as the girl who she has porn and sewing parties with. I felt so angry and uncomfortable. Like I was in an office with a man who knew I felt uncomfortable with him talking about and supporting strip clubs and him introducing me to the friend he has stripping outings with. How dare I have to go through that at a feminist event. I feel so violated and silenced. If I would have spoken up I would have looked like the "sensitive one" -- just like amoung men. ;( I don't want this girl to keep me away from the good I can do with this feminist group but I don't want to put up with passive agressive behavior like that. Any advice?

There is *NO* such thing as a pro-porn "feminist", is there a civil rights activist that is pro-Klu KIlux Klan and racist pornography?  Why don't these fake trader women be really honest about what they are really pro of ,pro-porn=pro woman hatred,pro-sexist inequality,pro-male supremacy,pro-sex discrimination,pro-harm to women and children etc etc   !+

These trader hypocrite women are giving all of the sexist woman hating pornography using men, further validation of using pornography, and the sexist dehumanizing of women as nothing but things to f*ck,ejaculate all over, call slut whore and bitch, use and disgard, and their sexist woman hating attitudes in general! Because men can then say look even some women and especially women calling themselves "feminists" even like and support pornography,so it can't really be sexist and woman hating,it can't really dehumanize and degrade women!Yes thats some "feminists"!

Even on a pro-sex radical feminist blog unborkwordpress.com she gave a good review to Robert Jensen's new book,Getting Off:Pornography & The End Of Masculinity, even though she hasn't read the book yet,she just read the very good review from the University of Minnesota College University newspaper. This is what she said,"I'm frustrated because here are some claims I agree with, mainstream pornography is degrading to women, pornography mirrors society,we have a rapist, racist, misogynistic culture, mainstream porn is the product of inequality and feminism is a gift to men."

hologirl, you need to find people who share your view on pornstitution. I'm lucky I found antiporn feminists somewhat in my area and we have meetings every couple of months, which is helpful. It must be incredibly frustrating to be in the presence of someone, to KNOW someone, who participates in porn parties. I'd probably explode of frustration if I knew someone like that. I think that woman is in denial or she doesn't take the pornography personally or she just feels more comfortable identifying with the male gaze. I recently wanted to start a chapter of a radical women of color organization but one of the members from the group emailed me back saying that they see "sex work" differently from antipornstitution feminists... hah! I've been walking around my room saying "people are so stupid!" and shouting"fools!" because of her response. I also had a Women's Studies professor who isn't critical enough of the porn industry (I still like her), but I get annoyed that she doesn't see what I see. She's one of those professors who isn't antiporn, because she sees it in a different "context". meh. I understand the "different context" and the "porn party" side of it, but ending violence against women is infinitely more important than the physical pleasure that's happens by watching porn (yeah, physical pleasure and mental anguish and fear of guys and hatred of women and girls too).

thanks for your reply bluecoat,

Many of the women in this organization believe in the harms of pornography -- some more intensly than others. I don't want to be this girls friend but she can be unavoidable if I wanna do other things to stop patriarchy that I care about that the organization is hosting. I feel like she wants to alienate me away bc I called her up on her porn bs and have been pushy to do anti-porn awareness work within the organization.
It's sad because it all goes back to a disagreement about her lack of support when I helped a fellow radical feminist friend to confront these 2 hip hop guys who were suspended from the station we work at (it was left up to the woman to do the job) bc someone on their show talked about ejaculating on woman's face and she was like "some woman like that and freedom of speech blah blah". She should have supported her feminists sisters but instead gets behind patriarchy?

sorry to go on about this: you are right: i don't know many anti-porn woman except through this blog and myspace.......

Hologirl 2 you have my support. .. we just have to keep growing and multiplying like a virus, we have to find people on our wavelength. with pro porn women, you usually cant change their minds. a couple of my friends are pron friendly lesbians and hets. When people are your friends it hurts more to know they are pro p&p than if you don't know them, because you don't want to lose their friendship. but we have to stay strong. in our society everyone is bombarded by this garbage..

in the end, hats off to you..

I don't really think we want to associate the growth of feminism with a virus. Maybe rabbits. People love rabbits. :)
