Stockholm ends prostitution discretion

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, July 2 (UPI) -- Stockholm, Sweden, police have ended the policy of sending correspondence to the workplaces of men suspected of visiting prostitutes.

Stockholm police's trafficking group now sends the notice of suspected involvement in a crime and the summons for questioning to the homes of the men, The Local reported Monday.

"That's what you do in all other crimes, like rape, for example, and this should be treated the same. But we were very sensitive before," said Anette Dargen, an investigator in Stockholm's trafficking group.

The change brings an end to a policy of discretion aimed at protecting the families of the men involved.

"It is a crime of shame so we would send the summons to work or call the person up," Dargen told The Local.

Dargen said that since the policy was changed in March, the department has received numerous phone calls from wives or partners who opened the letters.

"Usually they already had their suspicions but now they've got it in black and white," Dargen said to the newspaper.

only johns get so much sensitivity directed at them by the government... Like they'd think of doing something out of the consideration of women's welfare.

It's about time they changed it - now women can do what they think is necessary with their husbands...

And Swedish "feminist" men now whines "What if I drove through the prostitution district innocently and got a notice and then my wife/girlfriend saw it and broke up with me!!!!"

Someone think of the poor men!

Which "feminist men"? My male feminist friends in Sweden have a very hard time finding other pro-feminist males there.

Yeah, that's frustrating. If you talk to those pseudo-feminist guys again, (if you have the energy) tell them they should think critically about the pornstitution industry (porn and prostitution go hand in hand). Mention how the commodification of sex is not "feminist"... hah, maybe you shouldn't even bother trying to convince people in denial! It might be a waste of your energy. Find folks who agree with you and become friends with them and/or spend more time on genderberg, hehe.

I agree with Bluecoat. It is up to us males to get other males out of denial, that is one of the things that I mean by men wasting Women's energy *within* feminist circles. Women's time is better spent doing
things that men cannot do. We males can stop crimes against Women , discourage use of porn, and abstain from prostitution.
But of course so far we have not even been trying..

Whenever I meet a male no matter how sweet he is on the outside, I ask them their position towards porn. I try to do it in an innocuous sounding way so they don't get that I am checking them out.
