Canada's National Day of Action on Violence Against Women

Postby dragonfly » Wed Dec 06, 2006 11:11 am

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/montreal/story ... 61206.html

From the article:

"On Dec. 6, 1989, Marc Lépine burst into a classroom at Montreal's École Polytechnique, ordered the men outside and opened fire on the women left behind.

Thirteen engineering students and one employee were killed before the attacker turned the gun on himself. Police later found an anti-feminist manifesto and a hit list on the man's body."

It's not an action or a rant, but it horrifies and angers me, and I thought it was worth posting here. What a sick bastard.

geez, I always forget this date. I also tend to 'ignore' what happens in canada because we are so innundated with American news all the time.

Thanks for the reminder.

I know what you mean, sunnysmiles. I was surprised not to see this already up at genderberg.

It's so devastating that shootings like this continue to happen. It's happening so often, that perhaps that's why we don't hear much about this particular event anymore.

It's a really depressing day. A reminder that it's always been like this, and it's not going to change anytime soon.

i felt rather bad - so I put it up on my blog. It's interesting - because not too many recent hits come up for this day. A lot of the articles I came across are surprisingly for vigils that were held LAST YEAR.

Even the whie ribbon campaign seems to have forgotten about it. :(
