When women write in so-called progressive media about how teen girls are lying sluts who really want to be prostitutes but are ashamed of admitting it, it reinforces the belief that all women are untrustworthy liars who want to be whores but lie about it later. -Sam

Defense paints girls as liars in child sex case
By HARVEY RICE
2006 Houston Chronicle

A federal jury heard a defense attorney depict two teenage prostitutes as habitual liars today before beginning deliberations on whether to convict a Houston man on sex trafficking of children charges.

"The fact is, they are just not believable," said David Adler, attorney for George "Unique" Anderson III, 28, in his closing argument on the fourth day of trial.

Adler told the six men and six women jurors that the 16-year-old from West Palm Beach, Fla., and the 15-year-old from Beaumont had lied so many times to police, jailers and other officials that their testimony against Anderson could not be believed.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Bertram Isaacs told the jury that Anderson knew that the girls were underage when he became their pimp last year.

"There is no doubt that Mr. Anderson knew what he was doing," Isaacs said.

He said Anderson knew from the girls, and from conversations with the 15-year-old's mother and aunt, that they were younger than 18.

The girls' age was unimportant to Anderson, Isaacs said. "That is his property, that is his asset, this is something he is going to sell on the street that makes money for him," he said.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard Harris reminded jurors that a police officer had testified that Anderson told him, "I'm a pimp," after a traffic stop.

The teen-agers gave at times wrenching testimony on Tuesday and Wednesday about running away from intolerable conditions to a life of prostitution.

The 15-year-old said her father was in prison on drug charges and her drug-addicted mother had once told her that she wouldn't care if her daughter died.

The 16-year-old told of never knowing her father, of beginning prostitution at 13, of giving her earnings to her mother and running away after being placed in a foster home. She said she worked for as many as 20 pimps, walking the streets in Miami, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and other cities before landing in Houston last year.

She admitted to wanting to hurt and kill herself at times and to receiving treatment at a mental health hospital.

If convicted, Anderson could be sentenced to as many as 40 years in prison and fined $250,000 on each of two counts.

After the federal trial, Anderson will be tried in state court on charges of promotion of prostitution, a misdemeanor with a maximum one-year sentence and $4,000 fine; and sexual assault on a child, a felony with a maximum sentence ranging to 20 years.
