The Beautiful Woman project

I thought this was nice - put a smile on my face for sure. Thought I'd share:

Mind you, I do think it's like we're starting from scratch, back in my undergrad days I thought beauty standards blah blah had just hogged all of feminism... What's going on here? Why are we having to re-write everything over?

i've certainly moved on from the whole body image focus that i started o.a.g. with.
it's a backlash upon a backlash.

pony, I realize the redundancy of 'body image' issues as I mentioned. It's been done, it's pathetic that we still need to discuss it.

What I found interesting about the link that I put up - was that it was a response to the new 'boob-job' pandemic that is infecting 13 yr old girls! That's nuts.

As for the links you've provided, I think a lot of this 'body image' stuff is so 'pro-porn feministy' cause - seriously, do men really need to take naked pics of themselves to remind them that not having a 6-10inch cock is the norm rather than the exception....

I don't see the point in it. It goes with the whole "let's take control of our sexuality by allowing ourselves to put it on display as we please" vs, "let's get men to change now". I/e let's inundate the mainstream with images of 'SEXY normal' women, rather than let's re-direct the male gaze away from women's bodies period.

This is what things like American apparel cash in on. I have mixed feelings about the dove campaign too...

I think it's helpful to see normal female bodies. That's the way I take the links I posted. Obviously this young woman thinks she and her friends aren't normal.

but then why aren't men doing it?

It's good to see women with a variation of bodies in music videos, as actresses, as politicians, as models, as authors etc... i.e. in our every day lives

I don't know if it's any beneficial/useful to see naked pictures of women in the nude. I know this was very common back in the 90s as beauty was a big part of feminism. There are plenty of porn websites dedicated to teh voyeurism of 'average' girls. I wouldn't be surprised if they were more popular than 'airbrushed porn'.

It was very helpful for me to see pictures of other ordinary women nude when I was trying to accept my body. Nudity is totally sexualized and a big thing in our culture, and I appreciate photos that show nudity in a casual, non-sexual way.

Men do it sunnysmiles from the time they are little boys right throughout their whole lives; pools, gyms, urinals, everywhere, their bodies in all their variations are celebrated and all is norm with them, even with their bellies hanging over their laps. If another generation of girls grows up without knowing they are normal, however varied, this epidemic of plastic tits and asses will continue. No one, virtually non one thinks mens bodies must all look alike. It's all part of how much they hate us, and how much we have internalized this that we are convinced we must risk death to mutilate ourselves to the patriarchal defined norm.

And yes, I could drop a cock site in here too. Want me to?

But of course, we don't really need this because we are encouraged to get to know their cocks intimately (see Sam's recent post for the how to blow class) and they parade them around all their lives. With pride. And smiles: boys will be boys.

p.s.

Also, I don't know what you thought was objectionable about the mother site for example. If you hit the links and scroll through, you'll see wattley, shimmery stretch marked, bloated and saggy bellies after childbirth, and some not, and hugely hurtful looking pregnant protuberances. It's all normal and we are never supposed to know that.
