Great article annared. She is spot on about the rape desensitisation issues and the associations with the visibility of women-as-sex-object-available-at-all-times so prevalent now in lad's mags, tv, music videos, (and, she gratifyingly mentioned the pussycat drolls - who, by the way are in the UK at the moment). They were preaching their poison on tv yesterday, all that crap about "every woman has a star inside her, she just needs to discover it - our performances are great cardio workouts and we go to the gym too, at every opportunity, we started as a cabaret act etc" - didn't need to put my finger down my throat. They showed a performance, and for some reason, there seemed to be quite a few "mumsy" looking women in the audience. I bet those women don't know just how sleazy their roots really are. "Cabaret" indeed. Even worse, they may know, and not really care. Wait for their stripper, oops, cabaret, workout video.
The author of this article is def on the same wavelength - I have been saying for ages now, the porners are brainwashing women into being sexual slaves, so, men won't have to work hard to get consent, they soon won't "have to" rape, and rape will be deleted as a word and a crime. Porn is all tied in with rape and domestic violence issues.
A number of years ago, poor Jill Seward (I think that is her name), the victim of the Ealing rape/robbery, tried to hold a campaign to highlight the issue of rape, but no one went!
The only people who are going to change this are women - stop being sexually available and giving it to men on a plate, stop sending out messages that you are sexually available, in the mistaken belief that it's liberating and empowering, and help stop representations of women as being just sexually available objects for men to fuck/abuse. It's a start at tackling the "terrorist" issues for women.
Out of breath now.
