woo hoo for Finland's new law!

Postby sam » Thu Jun 22, 2006 7:15 am

As human rights trends around the world go, it's Scandinavia first then others start to recognize they're right and follow their lead. It's undeniable to anyone genuinely concerned enough about prostituted women to listen to them that neither the concept nor the execution of prostitution is beneficial for women. That there exist woman who calls themselves feminist but think some other women really want to ve whores is mindboggling.

Finland's Parliament on Wednesday enacted into law a bill that will make the purchasing of sexual services a crime in circumstances involving
procuring or trade in human beings. A proposal to reject the bill was voted down 158-15 with four MPs abstaining.

First-time offenders will face six months in prison.

Some of the opponents of the law preferred a blanket criminalisation of the purchasing of sex and a few wanted to criminalise the sale of sexual services too.

Parliament approved the contents of the bill in a vote last week.

That is terrific news. Also as these countries are EU members they will try to influence the rest of Europe to follow their lead.

Fantastic.

YES! YES! and YES! Another one bites the dust (at least a grain or two). I wonder when our country (US) will catch on.

Wooooo excellent news. I feel quite proud of being half Norwegian now they're going to follow. I knew my father would come in handy one day.
