Great video. Yes, will link it and pass it on. Thank you so much, Kate!
"The assumption that "most women are innately heterosexual'' stands as a theoretical and political stumbling block for many women. It remains a tenable assumption, partly because lesbian existence has been written out of history or catalogued under disease;. . . partly because to acknowledge that for women heterosexuality may not be a "preference" at all but something that has had to be imposed, managed, organized, propagandized and maintained by force is an immense step to take if you consider yourself freely and "innately" heterosexual. Yet the failure to examine heterosexuality as an institution is like failing to admit that the economic system called capitalism or the caste system of racism is maintained by a variety of forces, including both physical violence and false consciousness. . ."-- Adrienne Rich, in

Definitely watch this one! So many powerful stories and insights... The one that really hit me was Gunilla Eckberg talking about how we need to view women in prostitution (& thereby also porn) as our sisters. And that what happens to them affects all of us. The message going out is "See? These women can be abused in whatever way is demanded!" The fallout from that message shortens to "...Women (in general) can be abused in whatever way is demanded." Being women in our porn culture means just being sitting ducks for whatever abusive men want to do with us. Isn't that just "normal" good ol' boy thinking? Helping to change that mindset is my goal. I picture a world in which a guy would be really embarrassed to admit that mindset, and realize he needed some serious help to change it. It's amazing to see how the demand for prostitution has nose-dived in Sweden. Progress is just a matter of time and effective effort.
